Every sealed Pokémon product has two prices: what retail charges (MSRP) and what the market charges once retail sells out. The gap between them is the cost of missing a drop — right now the widest spread we track is Paldean Fates Elite Trainer Box at $49.99 MSRP versus $479.99 on the secondary market (+860%).
The spread column is the argument for alerts.

How to read the spread
- Below MSRP — supply outran demand. The rare honest bargain in sealed product; also the box to rip rather than hold.
- 0–15% — effectively retail. If you missed the drop, paying this beats camping restocks for weeks.
- 15–50% — the scarcity premium. Only worth it if the set matters to you specifically; restocks at MSRP are usually still coming.
- 50%+ — you are paying for having missed every drop. Either set up alerts and wait, or accept that you are buying at collector pricing.

What does MSRP mean for Pokémon cards?
MSRP is the manufacturer's suggested retail price — what The Pokémon Company intends the product to cost at retail. Standard reference points in 2026: $49.99 for a Mega Evolution-era Elite Trainer Box, $26.99 for a booster bundle, $161.64 for a 36-pack booster display. Anything above those numbers is a retailer markup or the secondary market, not the price of the product.
Why do sealed Pokémon products sell above MSRP?
Because retail sells out in minutes and the unmet demand moves to eBay and marketplace sellers at whatever the market bears. The spread varies enormously by set: right now Paldean Fates Elite Trainer Box carries roughly a 860% premium over its $49.99 MSRP, while 7 tracked products actually trade below MSRP — heavily printed sets do exist.
How do I buy Pokémon TCG products at MSRP?
Buy at retail in the minutes a drop is live — Walmart, Target, Pokémon Center, Best Buy and GameStop all sell at MSRP, and all sell out almost immediately on hyped sets. That timing problem is what restock alerts solve. Paying the secondary-market column on this page is the cost of missing the window.
Is buying sealed product above MSRP ever worth it?
Sometimes, knowingly. Sets go out of print, and sealed prices for desirable out-of-print sets have historically climbed well past their launch premium. But check the spread first: paying +10% for a set that is still being restocked weekly is very different from paying +80% for one whose print run ended. This table exists so that decision is made with the numbers visible.
